TREMEC at the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise

August 21, 2015

Woodward Dream Curise_Woodward and 13 MileWhat a great time for performance car enthusiasts!

This past weekend marked the 21st anniversary of the Woodward Dream Cruise. What began as a grass-roots attempt to relive and recreate the nostalgic heydays of the 1950s and 1960s - when youth, music and Motor City steel dominated American popular culture - has grown to draw 1.5 million folks and 40,000 automobiles cruising along America’s first concrete roadway.

Perhaps where you grew up there was a pike where people cruised and hot cars sized each other up in an internal combustion version of a medieval duel - but none of them were like Woodward Avenue. The road starts right in the center of Detroit and heads north to Pontiac almost 22 miles away.

Michiganders throughout the state knew about the majesty of Woodward and its little brother, Telegraph Road, but the rest of America learned about what would become a mythical place thanks to the September 1969 issue of Esquire. In “Gaining Respect in Woodward Avenue,” Daniel A. Jedlicka waxed poetic:

“At night, when all the drive-ins along [Woodward Avenue] start clicking on their lights and self-respecting white-collar workers are at home playing with the baby, Woodward Avenue becomes the street-racing capital of the world. Here, in the hot little fingers of teenage drivers, a large part of the future of the American automobile is being determined … Auto makers know that if they can produce a hot street racer, they’re in, from New York to California.”

What a great time for performance car enthusiasts! The new Mustang is here…a new Camaro is coming out soon. Some Corvettes and Challengers are putting out 600, 700 horsepower and more. And, they all feature TREMEC manual transmissions…with power that cruisers of the sixties and seventies could have only dreamed about.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is a truly awesome annual event. We really appreciate and thank the cruisers and supporters who visited the TREMEC display on Woodward and 13 Mile in Royal Oak.

Join us again next year to share some refreshments, swap stories and check out our transmission displays along the backdrop of Woodward Avenue - where cruising began in Detroit.
