The NMRA blasted into the 2015 season, starting the year off right at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida, over the weekend of March 5-8. The sun rose later on Sunday as the clocks were pushed ahead for Daylight Savings Time while the elimination day loomed.
The staging lanes were bursting at the seams as over 100 entrants battled for top True Street honors, with the fastest eight stick cars receiving a special shootout plaque to recognize their prowess.
From there, things heated up as the quickest (3-pass average) two manual-equipped vehicles had an all-out slugfest with a “winner takes all” finale!
The 3rd Annual Stick Shift Shootout was an awesome event, as last year's winner, Anthony Heard, once again took home top honors and did a fine job representing the Fox community against some heavy late-model competition!
Entering the shootout with a 9.79 average and 1100 hp on tap, Heard's challenger, Jeff Scofield and his 2014 TR-6060 equipped GT500, were ready to give it their all against Heard and his 1990 Mustang. Unfortunately, their best wasn't good enough, as Heard not only outran them with a string of 9.40's, but got a big jump on Scofield at the tree - reminding us why the Windsor-powered LX Mustang is still a darling of the dragstrip and that there is more than one way to both win and lose a drag race.
Heard finished with an ET of 9.715 and 144.09 MPH average; Scofield with an ET of 9.308 and 150.55 MPH average.
Heard, from Lakeland FL, won the big prize – his choice of an off-the-shelf TREMEC transmission. This is a value up to $3,500! The winner also received a custom acrylic award.
TREMEC also hosted a True Street Racer Appreciation Party that took place before the True Street awards ceremony. Tons of racers, along with their families and crew gathered to celebrate with plenty of food, cold drinks and good cheer for all!
Congratulations to Anthony Heard, and all of the True Street, Spring Break Shootout, and Stick Shift Shootout competitors! We had a great time hanging out with you all and hope to see you again next year!
